The Catfish can slice model with variable layer thickness. Variable thickness can save print time and retain similar print quality.
Adaptive Layer Thickness
The first method is Adaptive Layer Thickness. Catfish will calculate layer thickness according to the shape of 3D model. The layer thickness is enlarged at vertical surfaces and use minimum at horizontal surfaces. This method will be applied when “Max Layer Thick” is larger than 1.1* “Layer Thick”. “Adaptive Ratio” is the stepping difference between adjacent layers. The larger ratio and layer thick, the greater the difference.
For example: Slice a sphere of 15 mm diameter with different “Adaptive Ratio”. There are more layers when the ratio is 0.5. The layer thick is standard layer thick at top or bottom when the ratio is 2.
Customized Layer Thickness
The other method is customized layer thickness. The method will use fixed layer thickness at specified region. The layer and region is defined as follows: [X,Y]H. X is minimum height of the region, Y is maximum height of the region. H is the layer thickness.
Fox example: [3.0,20.5]0.13, use 0.13mm layer thickness in height from 3.0 to 20.5. The define could have multiple region. The previous define will be applied if the regions are overlap.
The above example have 2 customized region and Adaptive layer thickness. 0.8mm layer thickness in height between 1 ~5mm, 0.1mm layer thickness in height between 9~13mm. The layer thickness is adaptive in other region.
The path width will be modified by the software if the layer thickness is different with standard layer thickness. The large thickness, the wider path is.
