UP Studio3 has a set of facet selection tools that allow users to select specific polygons/surfaces and then convert them into submodel for multi-color printing. User can use a paint brush to select very specific area or use a facet selection tool to select a polygons within a certain angular range.
Paint Brush:
To start, right click on the target model and select "paint". The model will enter a paint mode where other model manipulation are turned off. In the paint mode, user can hold "shift" key on keyabord and hold left mouse to paint the model's polygon.
If you would like remove some of the selections, hold "option" key to turn the paint brush into eraser tool and erase the unwanted selections.
Facet Selection:
To select a set of neighbouring polygons, user can left click at the interest area. Usually the click will only select a small set of facets at first, user can use the slider at the bottom of the interface to adjust the angular range of the selection, therefore fine tuning the selection area. This method is quicker than the painting method, but require the target area to have a more regualr and predictable shape.
Convert to Submodel
After selecting the interested area, right click on the model and choose "Separate". This will convert the surface into a submodel with thickness. If the surface are not converted, and user click the exist botton, the selection will be lost. So remembe to convert the selection first and then click the exist button to go exist the "paint" mode.
