Child Model in UP Studio 3 is a powerful feature, it gives user ability to modify the model without going back to CAD software.
Embedding (Extruder 2 option)
A Child model when overlapped with the main model will not change the geometry of main model, and the at overlapped region child model will avoid the main model.
User could use the "Extruder 2" option to assign the Child model to be printed by the second extruder. This allow dual color or dual material printing.
Child Model will automatically avoid the the main model, the main model is given the highest priority to preserve its shape.
Therefore user could use child model feature to embed one part into anther part.
Example 1: Showing internal structures
The skull and the heads are 2 independent models. Using Child model feature, the skull can be easily nested into the head.
Example 2: Print Dual Color
The vase part was cut from the original model by using Meshmixer. Then the vase is used as main model and the original model is used as child model, the 2 models were then overlapped in UP Studio 3.
The child model was printed by assigning extruder 2 which use Tiertime Blue PLA and main model was printed by Extruder 1 with Tiertime Natural PLA.
